ASSESSMENT OF PSYCHOLOGICAL DISORDERS IN WOMEN WITH POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME IN LAHORE.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:

To assess the presence of psychological disorders in women with poly-cystic ovary syndrome in Lahore.

INTRODUCTION:

In women of reproductive age, poly-cystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the common endocrine disorders. Poly-cystic ovary syndrome is a condition affecting women's hormone levels. Women with PCOS produces higher amounts of male hormones than normal.

METHODS:

This study is conducted in ARIF MEMORIAL HOSPITAL, MAYO HOSPITAL, JINNAH HOSPITAL, GENERAL HOSPITAL.

RESULTS:

This study assess the presence of psychological disorders in women with PCOS in Lahore. The sample consisted of 150 patients (100 PCOS and 50 Controls). The study utilized an instrumental questionnaire to assess the presence of psychological disorders in PCOS women; GHQ-12 and STATI-6. Demographic factors (age and marital status) were examined too. Data analysis included descriptive study. The result suggests the presence of psychological disorder in PCOS women. It is recommended that there should be assessment of mental disorders along with assessment of PCOS in women to prevent the disorders at initial stage.
